When both returned to Shropshire 4 years ago, neither expected a new musical project, not least because their backgrounds couldn’t be more different. Tom, a self-confessed Trojan Records freak and lover of groove-based sounds and analogue mayhem couldn’t be more different to Benet, who’d grown up on Indie angst, Nick Drake and the Warp glitch. Understandably, they didn’t see eye to eye at first, but still knew that they wanted to do something… They set about their first work in the amazing setting of The Dacha, a gingerbread house in the middle of a wood, covered in Russian-style domes and accessible only by a small path - this became the perfect place to write, record and develop their ideas. Here they recorded Jupiter 8s, slamming doors, vintage amps and babbling brooks, learning quickly that the best stuff came from the natural rivalry between them, refining and improving at every turn. In due course the magical album ‘Galapagos’ was born, a perfect combination of Tom and Benet’s many influences, yet still a very English affair (listen to the spiritual yearning of ‘Maranatha’ or the nostalgic regret of ‘Red Square Snow’). Out this year on Mantis Recordings, this really is a lovely record. It reminds me somehow of the first Fairport Convention album - a treasure-trove of ideas and colour, and a very promising debut."Ed Deeley GIGS Nov 9th. We are playing at The Big Chill House, Kings Cross, London. This is the launch night for the Chris Coco compilation album "Electracoustic".
